Accounting For The Popularity Of The Vampire

Accounting For The Popularity Of The Vampire
Focusing on the changing representations of the vampire, from feared monster to handsome 'vegetarians', what global happenings and trends at the time of release influenced these changes, how the typical vampire conventions continue to be challenged and whether these changes are what help to maintain the popularity of the genre. Also research into the intended audience for each film, box office figures, DVD sales and technology.
I will also look into how the representation of the male vampire in particular changes throughout my selected films and how these alterations have lead to a change in audience, whilst also debating where vampire films can go now, whether further evolution is possible.
Selected focus fims: The Lost Boys (Schumacher, 1987), Dracula (Fisher, 1958), Interview With A Vampire (Jordan, 1995) & Twilight (Hardwicke, 2008).
